Mumbai Pune Expressway closed.
Starting February 11, the Mumbai exit at Panvel on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will remain closed for six months to facilitate construction work at Kalamboli Circle. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is undertaking the closure to build a new flyover and underpass as part of the Kalamboli Junction improvement project, aimed at easing long-term traffic congestion.
Affected Routes-
All light and heavy vehicles heading toward Panvel, Mumbra, or Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) will face detours. Traffic police have enforced 24/7 restrictions to ensure smooth construction and minimize disruptions.
Alternate Routes for Commuters
1. For Goa/JNPT/Panvel-bound vehicles-
Exit the Mumbai-Pune Expressway at Konphata (9.6 km) and follow NH-48 via Palaspe Circle.
2. Pune-to-Mumbai travelers heading to Taloja, Kalyan, or Shilphata-
Continue for 1.2 km onto the Panvel-Sion Highway, turn right under the Purusharth Petrol Pump flyover, and proceed via Roadpali and NH-48.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Navi Mumbai, Tirupati Kakade, eemphasized that the closure aligns with the Motor Vehicles Act and assured that the project’s completion will significantly reduce traffic bottlenecks at Kalamboli Circle.
